One More Interesting Point From Rick Warren

One other interesting point made by Rick Warren on Dateline NBC:

Ann Cury: You said that God says in the Bible that a man and a woman should cling to each other for life, but it does not say that a marriage is only between a man and a woman. In fact the Bible says that King Solomon had 700 wives. Leviticus speaks of homosexuality as being a sin, but also orders the death penalty for eating fish that had fins and getting a tattoo.
Rick Warren: The people that make that argument don't understand there are three kind kinds of law in the Bible that are very different. There's civil law, which is for the nation of Israel. There's ceremonial law, which is for the Jewish priesthood. And there is moral law, which is for everybody. The laws about eating fish and stuff, those are civil and ceremonial laws for Israel. No Christian follows those.

I admit, I didn't realize there are three types of law, civil, ceremonial, and moral, mentioned in the Bible. I'm glad Rick cleared that up for me. So, even though God pronounced all three laws,
Christians such as Rick Warren get to choose which ones are for them and which are not! It's nice to have a faith that in reality lets me choose what I want to do and what I don't want to do.

If you read and study the Bible, you will know that Rick Warren is right. He is not choosing, he is following commandments and teaching presented consistently throughout.

I thought he did a terrific job answering poorly conceived and researched questions. Sing songy Ann didn't want answers, she was looking to embarrass him.

Merry Christmas!

Anonymous,

No one doubts that Mr. Warren knows his bible; many people are well versed in it.

That said, many of us see the bible as nothing more than a collection of fables and tall tales thrown together and shoved down the throats of the rank and file to keep the masses in line.

The new testament shows us how families could be sold to pay off a debt, should we embrace that also?

Matthew 18:25: "But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made."

Happy Winter Solstice !

The only "law/rule" Jesus gave was to love one another.......oh, and "judge not lest ye be judged." So why all the other rules that Warren and others decide have to be followed by Christians? SO why not the same laws given to the Jews, so called "ceremonial" laws by Warren?
