Sometimes it's hard to believe we live in 2008! Sometimes it's hard to believe we live in the US, supposedly one of the most advanced societies on the face of the Earth. Sometimes I am just flabbergasted and at the same time appalled. To think that Congress yesterday passed a bill that extends federal hate crimes to include crimes against gays and lesbians and gender-based hate crimes, but the bill faces a Bush veto is simply so very hard to believe. And the main reason why the bill faces a veto? Conservatives and religious groups feel the bill will target ministers who speak against homosexuality. Others think the bill will elevate the status of homosexual to that of other minorities! A hate crime is a hate crime! And whatever group is included in the law is just a plus in my book!
I am so sick of the "holier than thou" minority forcing its beliefs on me! I am so tired of the religious right running this country! It's time we all stand up and say, "Enough is enough!" I don't oppose any one's religious beliefs, so don't oppose my freedoms either! I hope, and pray, that Congress has enough votes to override any veto of Bush.

-----But Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, argued that religious leaders will be targeted by prosecutors and activist judges if someone in their congregation commits a crime against a homosexual because of a sermon or counseling advising against that kind of lifestyle.
They could be seen as “aiding and abetting” a criminal, he said.----
Then perhaps the good preachers should follow their leader's words and "judge not,lest ye be judged." And how about,"love they neighbor as you love yourself."
And if they can't follow those excellent precepts, then, they can risk the go to jail card!
And yes, wake up right wing voters,it is 2007, whether you want it to be or not!!!
I guess the red state right wing voters will have to be pulled into the new millenium kicking and screaming.
They need a good Reiki treatment that focuses on the first chakra, the red one,that holds a person's fears and issues of insecurity and loss.
Let's send thoughts of peace and wholeness to them. Send them a lot of violet and white light.
And surround the Bill with a strong purple, it is the color of justice.

Yes sir, here we go again, time for the old smoke screen...ratings at an all time low? Play the anti gay card!
And for the record, I THINK THAT religious leaders who speak out against gays SHOULD be targeted! Or at least have their tax free status taken away (hit them in the pocket book).
